Following their critically acclaimed debut album – 2017’s Purple, Swedish duo Pink Milk have released their brand-new single ‘Heart of Fire‘ – a devastatingly powerful and cinematic shoegaze ballad, which is being considered a mini-masterpiece in it’s own right. Having calendared further releases and live appearances scattered throughout the rest of 2019, this is the year that Edward and Maria look set to re-define post-rock.
Featuring Maria on vocals and drums and Edward on the guitars and bass, Pink Milk are not just heard -they’re felt. Such is the towering magnitude of the noise that they’re able to conjure from such seemingly meagre resources. ‘Heart of Fire‘ is a ballad written by Maria to her recently-born first child, with an aching tenderness which still exhibits the hallmarks of Pink Milk’s astonishingly vast and vivid sound. In fact, it was the impending arrival of her baby girl which led to them cancelling their planned appearances at 2018’s SXSW Festival, although this has in turn led to an increase in work on new material.
“A devilish congregation of swirling shoegaze guitars, beats that shake the foundation of time, howling, windswept drones, and vocals laced with barbed wire”– Line of Best Fit
When Purple came out in 2017, the record instantly ended up at first place on the Swedish critic’s chart Kritiker.se. Sweden’s biggest music magazine Gaffa also gave the album 6 out of 6 stars and called it “the best album released for many years“, while the English Indiependant wrote it up to be “one of the most consistently great post-punk albums of the year“. The accolades didn’t stop there as Pink Milk were also nominated best rock/metal act of the year in the prestigious P3 Gold-award, obtained ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Breakthrough of the Year’ in Gaffa, ‘WOW of the Year’ in Rockskallen Music Awards and ‘Shoegaze album of the Year’ on US radio channel DKFM.
